Creating a narrative through photos
This photoshoot was somewhat spontaneous. I saw a beautiful lantern for sale at a store and thought that it would be perfect for a Halloween-inspired photoshoot. I find that often it's the small things that inspire you, and then a larger concept is built from there.
The idea finally materialized in full once we had all the props we wanted to use. We had the magic pumpkin, the witch costume and the lantern I mentioned earlier. You can also spot the other character of this story in some of the pictures!
Photoshoot location was easy. Toronto has an extensive park and ravine system, so we decided to use one of the parks as our backdrop. It definitely helps to be familiar with the location where you plan to conduct the photoshoot to get the best results. Lighting conditions might not always be conducive to the athmosphere and feeling you want to convey. And proper lighting is probably one of the most important parts of photography. I made sure to explore the location prior to us visiting such that we can get the most interesting shots.
You can view the gallery of the resulting shots above. What do you think? Can you figure out what the story is about?
